AI scam selling self help books
A new wave of AI-generated scam books is targeting unsuspecting readers online, with books such as “Glow They Never Saw” and “Manifest the Unseen” as prime examples. These books were flagged after users discovered it was almost certainly written by AI, containing contradictory and fact-less content scraped from social media. The scam uses fake celebrity endorsements along with bot-generated YouTube, TikTok comments and suspicious Medium reviews that appear legitimate.
These AI fakes are created instantly, often promoting dubious self-help advice, limited-time discounts, and questionable mentorship programs. They target innocent people seeking personal transformation, using aggressive marketing techniques on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to spread quickly.
How to identify the AI book scam pattern:
Absent from Amazon, Barnes and Nobles and other major platforms; only available for sale on sketchy standalone sites.
AI-generated author name and copied, stolen book cover used for marketing purposes.
7,000 five-star ratings but only on the website selling that book. Ratings not present on other trusted platforms like Goodreads, BookMarks etc.
AI Bot comments on YouTube/TikTok promoting the book where the bot leaves comments persuading the book on content unrelated to the book.
AI Fake celebrity endorsement.
Aggressive marketing promoted via social media platforms with limited-time 58% discounts, and questionable mentorship programs.
Stay vigilant:
If a book claims life-changing results with no verifiable author, only available for purchase through the book’s sketchy standalone website online, lacks reviews on major platforms or relies on celebrity deepfakes, it’s likely a scam. Always verify the author’s credentials, check independent reviews on trusted platforms, and be skeptical of urgent “limited-time” offers.
Protect yourself and others by reporting suspicious content and spreading awareness. The rise of AI scams means you must be more careful than ever before trusting online recommendations.
